#166001 i was going to school and waiting for a parking spot when boom. someone backed up into me with his jeep. i want your guys opinion on if i should claim insurance on it. or if i should get money from the guy cause he said he would pay for me to fix it. and if he pays how much do you think i should get? looks like there is some frame damage as you can see in the picture. ps i have not registered the car yet as well.

#166008 go to a body shop and get an estimate. you dont have to go threw insurance. personaly i wouldnt on that. but if he dont pay then yes i would. but get an estimate for cost to replace a hood n bumper, and to get it painted. take the estimate to the guy so he knows your not b/sn him bout the price. then once you have the money, try n find a used bumper n hood thats the same color and use the rest for some tasteful upgrades :thumb:

#166012 well from the pictures i can tell you you will need....

a core support
front bumper
hood

now from where he hit it looks as tho he bent the core support in a way where it may have damaged the fog lamps or the headlight brackets or possibly radiator or a/c condensor.....there would also maybe damage to the hood hinges hood latch stuff like that......

id check that out first

also ebay is iffy to me because a friend got the bumper with fogs for a delsol off there for i think it was about 70-100 and it was way too big you may wish to also at this time do a front end conversion if you dont like the looks of the front of the delsol.........

but pricewise (quicky ebay)
-front bumper stock -70-100
-coresupport--unable to find--
-hood-200ish+

if i was you id go to a couple of repair shops get a free estimate of the damages you shouldnt have to shovel out insurance info for that then see how much its going to cost id say anything over 500 you should report

also if anything he was at fault so his insurance would go up not yours....

one more thing lol in the price if your just lookign at parts dont just do that since you will need paint etc and to be honest if you do it yourself then you gotta tally your time up that you think it would take you and charge yourself in a way where you see what it costs in labor for you doing it.....since in a way you can be fooled into just saying pay me for the parts and then you have all the parts however now you have to put them on paint them thats alot of work......and time=money so you just have to look at it that way as well....

#166023 get him for all hes worth, then just bend the core support up and get a new bumper and hood.... then get the whole car painted.

If it was his fault, id say claim insurance, cause youll get paid.
If you have liability only, id say pass on claiming it and get money from the dude.

But if hes willing to pay out of pocket and you feel like he'll come through, go with that. Insurance will go up if you claim, and you also risk those assholes at the insurance place totalling your car. they love totalling.

if they total it then buy it back and then you have money and a car....once they total a car its technically the insurance companies and you can given a small window of opportunity buy it back from them for less than they paid you.....

true story my next door neighbor got hit on his truck dented teh drivers side door and ruined the drivers side half door and a bit of the rocker frame was fine etc still drivable they totaled it and he paid like 300 to get it back or less cant remember but i know it was cheap he then put i thnk a hundred into it to fix it and drove it fine....clean title still etc...and i think he got paid 1-2k for it so yea even if they do total it depending of coarse on laws and such you can buy it back i know in nys you can

#166030 the thing is if they total it and you buy it back, you have yourself a salvage title ( in MD, dont know other states rules and reg.) which is no good to me at least.

and whats up with the washington tags living in Oregon??? lol

#166049 i wouldnt even try to go threw insurance. why would you want it to get a salvage title? thats just retarted. I work for a body shop so i know how this stuff works. this is how a insurance comp. find the value of your car. kelly blue book it in the condition it was in befor the injury. then take 70% of that and that is all you ins. comp. will pay. so the value of your car to insurance will only be like mabey 1300bucks. just get a estimate. your latch is not fucked, norr is your radiator or condensor. the cors supprots can be played with and lined up. its just a lil bit of damage to the upper tie bar. not the full core suppor. my buddys subi was hit similar but at a higher speed. bent it back into place with a hammer and doli. buy a used hood and bumper. dont buy new when used will due. my boy in the subi clamied it under his insurance and recived 2800 buck. he got a used front cover, used fender, new black housing headlights, wheel spacers, used rear cover, fixed his trunk and got it repainted the factory blue. we did the body work and all the straiting. you cant even tell it was wrecked. and he got tones more. so if you you do it right you could have your car fixed and still have cash left ova. but thats just what i would do. like they say"When someone gives you lemons, make lemonade" :thumb:
