- Mon Jul 27, 2009 12:45 am #133464 Well my car was broken in to while I was out in work, and they messed up the locks on both doors and broke the hatch glass out. Basically , they totaled the car. Now, I'm just going to make it a project car and spend my random extra cash on it to get it back to running since it does still run well and eventually it will pay for itself back because of it's gas mileage since I do have to drive so much to get anywhere.

I was planning on just welding the key wholes so you can't even unlock the car with a key, and since the passenger door handle was broken out completely I was just going to weld a piece of metal in the whole where the whole handle went.

Then I was going to get an alarm and keyless entry so I can still get into the car and to help protect it from being broken in to again. But, I've never messed with these things, and not so sure about how much work is involved, or if they even can be wired into cars that don't naturally come with them. The hatch does not have power windows/locks.

just add another 12 in place of the spair tire.. then you will have a spair sub in case your other blows.

- Mon Jul 27, 2009 3:34 am #133484 its not hard to wire in keyless entrys to cars you will need power door locks. my car didnt have power locks, and keyless entry or an alarm. not hard to install. the power locks were roughly 20$ its easy to install when you take the doors off.

- Tue Jul 28, 2009 3:18 am #133740 yeah its not impossible to do, when i put my viper alarm in i used DEI door actuators in the doors and one in the hatch. Nothing like remote starting, popping the hatch, and unlocking the doors on my 16yr old hatch when most NEW cars cant do it

It seems like all of the ones I find are for auto lock doors, and I'm still set to believe that the alarms that I find to buy are for auto doors anyways. If I'm going to be putting the money into the car to make it look much nicer, I want to throw a little money in it to keep it safe as well.

- Tue Jul 28, 2009 1:44 pm #133799 I have 2 direct electronics (DEI) door actuators for my manual doors, part number 524T are used for my keyless entry. I picked mine up from circuit city when they were going out of business but they are $15 on ebay. Work perfect with my Viper alarm which is also a DEI product. But if your going with a power door conversion from a EX i'm sure there is other options

- Fri Jul 31, 2009 2:41 am #134440 Actually you're talking about "door poppers". If you shave the door handles you don't need door locks at all. So actuators will do you no good.

A door pop kit consists of a loaded spring that you mount in the door jamb, and then a strong, one way electric actuator that pulls on the door handle rod.

As for putting an alarm into an old car, of course! I've put them into hundreds of old Hondas and Acuras. I've even had to put them into mid sixties muscle cars.

You don't need to have power door locks to have keyless entry.
