Technical Topics specific to the Hatchback body - NOT where you post pics/build specs of your car.

#67644 Well I say theoretically an all motor build would be better for mountain driving because if there's a lot of sharp turns and what not, you want the widest powerband you can get. With a turbo you're likely going to have a powerband in the higher RPM range, which would be inefficient for the twisty roads that mountains generally are home to. If you go with an all motor build with ITB's and what not, you're going to have a much larger powerband. With a good build going N/A you can probably get somewhere between 200-250HP depending on what components you go with, and if you were to gut the interior and do whatever lightweight mods you can, that car would move to say the least.

#67648 i couldnt agree more with what everyone is saying here. for the driving conditions in the mountains id say go with all motor so you can have a better powerband.

as for the b16a2 goes, they can be made fast but a b16a2 v.s. a b18c1 with the same mods you can expect the b18 to walk away from it.

imho build you a nice all motor b18c1 w/ a good suspension setup and have fun with it :thumb:

i totally agree with you go all motor b18, my cousin has a 91 crx mint car has that b16a2 in it and i had a b18 a1 in my 88 civic hb and my car walked all over his and the sad thing is his car has a chipped ecu, cai and exhaust, skunk 2 intake, and my car literaly walked all over him and my car was so fun to drive, we had it stayin next to 4.6L mustangs lol.... itsgreat nothing makes you feel better when a guy laughs at you cuz you have a 88 civic with a 1.8L and he has a 4.6L stang, and you beat him at the track and his gf laughs at him, lol that was one good night..

anyways i would go all motor b18, i right now am building an all motor D16a6 witha y7 head forged pistons and eagle rods, arp head studs stock intake header and exhaust, cai, and thats it.my buddy here says he built the same thing just used different pistons and he got 14:1 comp ratio, it was a crazy car... till he wrecked it

#67669 Cool. Pick up a B18 of your choice the C1 or C5 in the u.k ITR. Great gear ratio's and very quick. And I think everybody else has replied pretty much with the advice I would of given :thumb:

#67690 Better powerband with N/A? I suppose if you plan on keeping the revs above 5000...

A supercharger or a small turbo and a cam FI cam will have a lower and longer power band than a peaky N/A build. Don't make the mistake of lowering the compression too much. For mountain driving or any kind of technical driving you're going to want the smoothest possible power band.

When I get around to having a B series built, it's going to include Endyn high compression "roller wave" pistons and probably some Bisi cams or whatever Endyn supplies. And it will most likely be N/A but for daily driving and pump gas.

#67788 I have taken all of your ideas and have been researching almost daily on them. I'm still looking at other alternatives. But the biggest thing for me at them moment is to just find the car. I have found a few coupes but that is about it. HB is really hard to find. Eg anyways, EK is everywhere.

#67909 well I still have yet to find a damn HB. But I have another question, Whats the deal with the engine from the older integra's? I realize its not vtec. But I have an opportunity to buy one for really cheap off a close friend that has been completely rebuilt and is in great shape. What is the deal with this motor? can you get much power from them?
