naaa.... man I worked at shops for the past five years.
K-swaps are dirt cheap, people just dont know the right people. I did a K-swap in my buddys EK total cost was close to 5,000
lets compare parts to a B-series now.
K20A2 with 6-SPEED $1,900
Hasport mounts $450
Axles $200 (used Type-S Inners and base Outers)
AutoZone CV boots $50
Jumper Harness $150
R-crew Header $500
R-crew shifter plate $100
R-crew fuel rail $100
Fuel lines and FPR $300
Jumper Harness $100
K20R ECU $300
RSX radiator $300
Shifter cable $80
MISC...$100
My labor = food + beer
204WHP
total = LESS THAN 5,000
Lets look at a Built B-series 1.8 motor price
1.8 Block $500
ITR pistons $150
ARP rod bolts $100
ARP head studs $100
Bore, Hone, balance and blue print $500
Water Pump, Oil Pump, tensior, timing belt $200
Assembly ????
B16 or P72 Head $250
valvetrain $500
Cams $500
Cam Gears $300
Port and Polish $1000
Intake manifold $100
Ported TB $200
Fuel rail $100
310cc injectors $250
Hytech (replica) header $400
engine management cheapest $250
TOTAL OVER $5,000 and thats if you know how to assemply the motor.
These prices arent average and most would pay more but this is just a example of a average B-series build with skunk2 or blox parts.
Ok This B-series has the potential of making maybe 220 at most with a REAL HEADER AND LOTS OF TUNING.
The k-series which is cheaper and is Bone stock internals with a STOCK ECU makes 203whp.... I had a built K20 making 257WHP and the torque is much higher than a B-series will ever get close to unless you use a 2.0 bottom-end which will cost you much more to build properly.
So in the end. The b-series cost more and is at the highest level of a daily driver limits. The k-series is only bolt-ons. In the end it really comes down to you. Do you like K or B.
In my book nothing replaces a B-series but K-series will always be much more a head than ur B-series.
Stock internal K24 build from endyne made 253WHP on a roller and 300WHP on jets.
Hope this helps you out DOGGIE
