#100655 The honda battery i have in my civic hatch is on its last legs. Im looking to replace it with a high quality aftermarket battery that will handle my sound system and the b18 swap i plan to do in the future. after doing some research i decided to go with the optima yellow top but before i go through with it i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or feed back on the optima.

#100698 optima is a good brand however batteries no matter what will need a good alternator upgrade if you have a serious system because hte oem one just wont cut it and you may have troubles in the end but if its a mild system optima should do ya some good

#100843 I don't think that will fit in there.

Search the Odyssey catalog for the biggest battery that will fit in the Civic. In my experience, Optima's die out after a time, especially with some abuse. But I have two Odyssey batteries that have taken all kinds of abuse (including sitting dead for long periods of time). Then I put them on the trickle charger overnight and the next day they're good as new!

They do make yellow tops that fit in our civics, a guy at autozone helped me out, it's model number like D51 or P51, but the eclipses use them too, and so he had to look up the eclipse battery size to order it for me.

and my experience with optimas is that they work great when you don't have a slight electrical pull when everything is supposed to be off :thumb:

#101500 After calling different parts suppliers and finding out no one stocks the 51 battery size in a yellow top, and discovering shipping a yellow top to canada would be quite pricey i went with a interstate i got for half price with a 5 year warranty through work. i agree that when upgrading the sound system in the eg civic upgrading the alternator is a good idea and i wish i could afford a yellow top right now but because im only running a 4channel 600w amp the factory alternator and the brand new interstate work great.

Thanks for all the help

#101546 huh... well that sucks, the local auto zone had to order it to their particular store, so no extra real charge i guess.

the cool thing and why i went with auto zone is that it is a 3 year take it back and they will replace it for no charge no matter what guarantee instead of schucks or knects. but i'm sure your interstate will be just fine
:thumb:

i upgraded all my engine grounds and alternator charge wire with 4ga tsunami wire and big ass difference with the sound system/throttle response and starts. but i got 2 10's with a rockford amp and also a hi's amp....

cheers,

#102188 I have a redtop that I used in my old 1991 DX.

That extra fuckton of cranking power sure comes in handy when it's forty below.

Still haven't decided if I want to do a relocation on my car and use the red top, or sell it.

I changed a couple of engine grounds with 4g when i installed the wiring for the system but ill try changing the alternator charge wire, thanks BLaCkSiLo. The interstate works alright for now, but i am jealous of your optima and down the road ill throw down the extra coin to order one.
