#65456 One of those mods I've been looking to do for a LONG time now is something I see quite frequently and can't help but love. How the heck do those guys and gals get those blue headlights??

I started my journey of headlight education at some of the local auto parts stores...

At first, I thought I had found it right off the bat...I spent around 60 bucks on a set of high beams that had blue bulbs. The box said something along the lines of "Xenon super-bright" or something like that. Because I was desperate for tEh Blu Heds...I had just spent my money on slightly brighter headlights... :(

Then I continued my journey via the interwebs! Using advanced technoledgy like Google and YouTube (*snicker*) I found that what I was looking for was actually something called...HIDs... :eh:

I soon realized I was getting involved in something complicated...HIDs aren't just a set of blue bulbs...they run at different power levels at high kelvins making the light output different shades of...eh...light...

ANYWAY! ... I am so confused I don't even know where to start...

I WANT...Blue low beams...I mean REALLY blue...not blue-ish white...or blue-ish violet...BLUE...

THEN I want to add to that...ultra-violet high beams.

Now I already found the headlight housing I want. (Dream headlights btw) Single piece projector wraparounds with black housing to match my car and electric blue angel eyes to match my neon...PERFECT

my question is this...what are the numbers I'm looking for? When I go rummaging around online, I wanna know...do I wanna go to some random website and pick out the headlight that's labeled: "64 Trillion K! Will definately cause all things in front of you to go blind! BUT ITS PURPLE!" :hehe:

Help me out guys...blue low beams...purple high beams...what do i need?

#65511 LOL!
I'm really not sure if those two colors are possible for I have 10,000K(bluish whites) in hi/low and they only come in 1 bulb each side. If you really want a blue shade similar to those ones on BMWs, Audis, Benz, etc., I suggest you go with 12,000K or 15,000K.

And on the side note, I hope you know what the legal Kelvin rating for your city is. 'Coz ours here I think it's just 8,000-10,000K but of course some really want to push it further.

I've seen it done before...I just didn't know HOW.

The low beams were like...Ultra blue...very pronounced not that light blue that I see with the cheaper stuff. And the dude's high beams were hella purple. It was sick.

#65589 On which car did you see those on? And just to let you know, cooler looking lights doesn't mean that it would shed light more. It just looks cool.

#65638 The car was a civic. It wasn't local I just saw it online...though It was a while ago so I dont remember where...

Also, I think I remember him saying that there were just two seperate sets of HIDs...15,000k for low beams, and 40,000k for highs.

those color temps put out less lumen's then Halogen bulbs do. so you would only be inhibiting your ability to see. and pissing people off that you drive towards

Yeah, I was wondering. The highest rating I saw was 30000K.

But DJSilkie, I suggest you just go with 1 pair of HIDs maybe around the 15000K rating 'coz if you get 2 HID kits: you're gonna clog up your engine bay with ballasts and wires. And if you go with those higher rated ones: you risk getting pulled over and you piss people driving against you.

#65869 OK so I did some research...I know a little more about the whole HID kits now.

I'm going to completely forget about the whole thing I said about purple highs/blue lows because I have no idea where I saw that and after researching a little, the video I saw was probably edited or something because its like...impossable.

So NOW here's what I need from you guys...

The headlights I want I've already picked out...I just need help with the bulbs.

I know I want to get Bi-Xenon HID's (the real ones with the ballasts...not the fake kits) So I can have high and low beams. I also am 100% possative I want my heads to be as blue as can be.

What's the best "K" I wanna go with to get a deep and rich blue. Use what knowledge and experience you guys have to point me in the right direction. And please...no more of that "rethink what your doing" crap...dont be a jerk...just askin for help. I AM still learnin ya know

a vid you say was the car driving towards the camera? coz AFAIK with HID's the colour also changes depending on distance. so are you sure it was not that. coz on a normal HID it will go from a pink to a blue colour.

but if you change the bulbs to some thing like this? (H4-2, H9, H10) it might go from purple to blue. but its not high to low beems(maybe the H4-2 will be) but how far you are from the object?

just my 2c...

It was a long time ago so I barely remember. Even when I saw it I didn't know what I was looking at till now. But I remember the low beams being blue and high beams being pruple. After doing some looking around I knew purple and blue headlights were possable so I assumed thats what it was. Hell for all I know it could have been some sort if freaky neon job lol. It's ok anyway...I've already decided the headlights I want...just figuring out the bulbs.
