#181121 So I had a p28 ecu for my d16z6 civic, the ecu got fried and today I just now purchased one from a guy. The ecu looks a little bit different on the inside and it said DOHC on the cover but it's still a p28 ecu should it work? So will DOHC p28 ecu's work with SOHC ecu's?

#181124 That's what I was thinking but I hear some people try chipping with their ecu from a p28 sohc to make it work with their dohc.

#181125 p28s can be socketed and chipped for dohc motors, they are the best for tuning over p30s for b16s etc but they are primeraly for sohc d16s

yea what he said.... p28 are generally used because the are a more plentifull vtec ecu vs a gsr(p72 or p61) or b16(p30) ecu, as i have only ever seen one obd1 usdm b16 ecu ever in my time of messing with hondas, and that was at a junk yard on a delsol vtec swap.... honestly it dosent matter what ecu you start with... any ecu can be re-socketed and chipped, and you can even convert auto ecu's to maual and convert non vtec to vtec, if you open up the ecu, with the plugs facing your left, if it has been chipped there will be a small rectangualr "box" in the lower right corner, most chips are SST chips it will say this on the top, it is a removeable 28 pin eprom chip, most are rewirteable for your app. as far as it saying dohc on the top if could have just been written on there by someone who dosent know any different. but ALL p28's started out life as a sohc vtec ecu.
