ECU, Wiring, Sensors

#105575 I have a question for you guys and gals. I have a p13 to run my H22 for now, but I wont have the EGR, or possibly the o2. And that should ghet me to a tuner. Then there I will put in my P28 socketed and ready to be tuned in real time on the Dyno. I also have a Wideband o2 sensor with an AEM UEGO My question is about the o2.

1.Can I leave the wideband hooked up[ all the time or only when im on the dyno tuning? Added to that If I can have the wideband hooked up all the time, do I still need the stock o2 sensor? I dont have a stock o2 and dont really want to buy one id I dont have to. So can I run the wideband all the time, with no stock o2?

Tahnks for all and any input...

#105581 I dont think we have that many tuners on this forum, I may be corrected though.

You should check out pgmfi. Its full of tuners and they should be able to answer your questions.

I also want to know the answers about leaving the wide band in. I would imagine it would be okay as long as you keep the wires tucked and out of the way.

#105656 Yes you can leave the AEM Wideband Gauge Type O2 in. If it's not the Gauge Type then as long as you have the controller for it and the controller has a selectable output (0-1 V or 0-5 V), then yes, you can. The AEM Gauge Type can run independently only operating the gauge, or you can have it hooked up to the ECU. The P28 wont accept the wideband signal, but the AEM can output a narrow band signal via a switch on the back of the gauge.

Another option is to leave your stock O2 in and have it connected to the ECU, then have your wideband O2 in a separate bung just outputting to the gauge.

#105670 Its the AEM UEGO. So I would ahve to run it connected to the ecu. And just chage the setting on the back?

And put it on a different setting when tuning?

Sorry for the noob questions. Im new to all this tuning...

#105983 Yeah but the Gauge-type or just the plain UEGO?

Anyways, your tuner is going to have this all sorted out for you.

I have the Gauge-Type. That's the one with the switch for different outputs. The switch doesn't effect the gauge reading. It's always going to be a wideband reading. It only affects what the gauge is going to tell the ECU. If you have a standalone EMS then it can take full advantage of the O2 sensor's wideband output. If you have a stock or "chipped" ECU, then it can only accept a narrow band input. So it's up to you if you want to leave the wideband in place so you can monitor the fuel ratio (assuming you buy a gauge), or just have it removed after tuning. Which would make the whole thing a waste since your tuner will likely have his own wideband sensor. Not to mention that all dyno's have a wideband sensor.

I don't know whether the plain UEGO has a switched output. I could read the instruction manual but if you're too lazy to do that then so am I. In any case it doesn't matter cuz you're tuner knows what to do.
