Or just the opposite happens, Somebody with just as much or more knowledge on a certain subject will get turned down in favor of the person with a diploma, as if that piece of paper makes them better than the person that learned from actually doing instead of simply reading.

Anybody can be educated but it takes personal experiences to gain knowledge.
