The Change Over. Innuendos Inside!

So I've finally decided what my plans are for the car. After a long talk with Penelope (What? thats her name!) We've decided that a B swap is the best option for her future. Our original plans were to just boost her D and be done with it, but she seems to have come down with a cold and isn't feeling quite herself lately. She claims she's just getting old and she's nearing her end of days, but I have reassured her that we can save her. (Although I have been eyeing the sexy hot body of some hatches online) SO, that being said, I've noticed a few of you guys here are hating on the B16. Why is that? I don't want answers like "Yo, dat VTECH is lik 1 of dem D's slike a POS homes." I want proper answers and helpful insight. The way I see it is I would like to get me a B16 like so:

A decent 170hp, and eventually, in the summer, slap a turbo in with the mix. I'm planning on boosting on stock internals and pushing maybe 8psi through it. (Penelope just loves the idea of Forced Induction!) We were shooting for about 220whp by the end of the build.

When buying this engine swap what should I expect? Would I feel a world of difference over my 102hp d15b7? Penny enjoys rough riding, getting dirty, and going fast. I want to make her dreams come true.

:hehe:

Spend the extra money and get a GSR. The B16 has no torque. 1.8>1.6

What kind of car do you have?
Bcus this change over comes with a cable tranny. So if you have a 92+ eg, ej ect. You're not going to be able to use that tranny.

There's nothing wrong with the B16A, it's a great motor. It'll hold boost on stock internals, and should be good for 250HP as such. A B18C will be a fun motor and can take boost on stock internals also, should be good for 250HP or more. However, a B16A is going to be about $600 dollars cheaper for the motor and components in the beginning, and if you were to blow the motor it's about $600 dollars cheaper for a long block, and probably cheaper even further if you find one used locally. I for one say that if you plan to just swap it in, eventually slap a turbo on it and just go with it, and be relatively inexpensive, go with the B16A. If you want to possibly make big numbers down the road (which you can do with a B16A, don't get me wrong) or do an N/A build, I'd go with the B18C. Really kinda depends on what you want to do in the long run and how much money you want to spend. If you have the ability to go all out, go K or go home :thumb:

hasport makes a kit so you can use a cable tranny

Hydro tranny is still better! No sense in buying a kit you dont need when you can get the right tranny with the swap.

x2 from hydro to cable is more like a downgrade.
There's the b16 from the usdm del sol or jdm eg6 that the changeover already comes with a hydro tranny. Hmotors has them too. He should consider those.

hrm. very interesting. I have a question though. I fancy myself a mustang killer. What would be better suited to do the job? the high reving B16 or the torquier B18 GSR?

I was thinking about using the money i saved when buying the B16 over the B18 towards a pieced together turbo kit or even use it to pay for the install. Speaking of which, Greasedmonkey and JDM Katie, would you guys be willing to help me do the install? You guys are here in Texas; I have no clue where to even begin, plus I have no tools or anything. Plus, I'd be willing to pay. :P

I'll tell you this much when I had my Dl16Z6 I loved it, it had nearly 200,xxx miles but it just loved to scream and pulled along pretty well for a 1.6 single, when I changed over to a B16A JDM motor I was like :? you feel a little more kick and the engine is a little louder if you may, but I was a bit let down. When I went LS\VTEC I did notice a big difference and had fun till it overheated and died on me. Now i'm very happy with a B18B non VTEC but I kept my Si tranny and I'm loving every minute of it, more torque then the Si or the D16Z6 I have to baby it off the line and it just pulls strong though the whole RPM band, no waiting till 4500 RPM to feel the power it's just there all along (I guess the tranny helps too hehe)

I'm seriously considering going forced induction, though I might not go the Turbo way currently considering a Supercharger for it's N/A feel (well more than the turbo)
