Safety of downshifting from 5th gear to 3rd gear

- Sun Jan 20, 2013 8:34 am #324484 Is it safe on b16 engines to be going around 65 mph in 5th gear and then directly drop it into 3rd gear?

The previous owner did that when I was in the passenger seat to show off his cars acceleration.

(b16 sir II)

(We were in the country and the speed limit was 80mph)

i got the same motor in my hatch and i do that only when i have to. 3rd gear can go to 75mph before it hits revline, so you can but its kinda pointless.
