ecu and vtec problems

ok i just got my car running right and now at high rpms in about 3rd or 4th gear i get a cel light that comes on just when ever. i checked it and the light is code 23 which is the vtec pressure switch. now i have a p30 ecu and a jdm b16a that came with no vtec pressure swith as you can see in the pic please help

Your gonna need the oil pressure switch.
You probably could get one from your local auto dismantler.
Or a junkyard. Replace that and plug it in. :thumb:

The old trick is to join the VTEC wire with the VTEC pressure wire.

ok well i found out it only comes on at a lil over 8k rpms other than that it dont come on

Where do i hook that up at the ecu or at the harness. If i hook it at the harness what wire do i use on the pressure switch harness thanks everyone

the black wire on the pressure switch is a ground wire, its factory graounded in your harness, you joing the blue oil pressure swith wire with the vtec solenoid wire should be green with yellow stripe...

or you could just unplug you oil pressure switch and take a piece of wire, strip two ends of it and twist the ends, turn it in to a u shape and plug it into the oil pressure switch plug. i have seen it done both ways, but the first way works better and is cleaner... and just doin the wire tirck is normally what id use to diag the oil pressure switch... vtec will normally un engage when you get over 100 or 120 or so,

and you can join it at the harness or the ecu, thats your choice... i would be absolutely sure you 100% sure what your doing is rite if you go altering your under dash harness

Jumpering the pressure switch plug harness is the same as permanently grounding it. Which is also perfectly fine. That's what I did on the last Civic I owned until I put an AEM EMS in it.

Electricity doesn't care where the connection is made. But making the connection under the hood is easier and you're much less likely to get the wrong wire since many wire colors repeat at the ECU harness. Also, not all the wire colors are consistent across every model and year.

agreed x2 :thumb: very true, if your not familliar with the wiring this would be the best route for you

If you move to a standalone engine management you can set the vtec to engage when its most beneficial for your project.

theres other theards about tuning and stuff on here.... but hondata, crome, uberdata, neptune, ectune, aem, all are common

crome is the cheapest route as it is free, but you get what you pay for... first you need an ecu thats socketd with a 4 pin data log port to do any tuning, look into it and figure out whats best for your budget

but if your combo is stock, the factory isnt stupid, they put the crossovers at a certian point for a reason, i wouldnt change any engagement points unless youve done some internal engine work....
