yes i know this has been talked bout alot but been gettin lots of mixed info. jus throwin this out so maybe get a convo up and running. but im jus wondering about building a good block for turbo application with mixed b series parts. so well start with the b20b. heard the B one is better which has either more torque/power(more than welcome to correct me on any of this)
and putting gsr pump and few other gsr goodies as well as building up the walls because they are really thin. then i was thinking bout the ls motor. bigger walls and good compression. but b16 crank or something like that???
someone told me a good build with mixed parts. anyone got opinions on the setup?? or let me know what set up you built.!!

ok i know b is ok for boost but im pretty sure the b18 would be better the b18b1 that is now the b20 is good but i do beleive the internals are weaker....
Now what i would possibly suggest for mixed parts is a DOHC ZC lol since they are awsome for boost or so im told.
But yea mix matching motor parts is all fine and dandy but you gotta make sure the parts are strong since boost is a strain. your going at it right tho by strengthening up the block....

yea thats what im getting at. as far as which pistons produce lower compression as well as changinf cranks and stuff. and also as well as changing parts for more strngth. i know b18 with some pr3 pistons get more compression but you know which would make lower comp?

found this and its saying
P72
P73
will give it lower compression than that of the
Pr3/4

i hear the walls on the b20's are 33% thinner the a b18, so id say no for the b20, but the LS/turbo built i hear is good(which im thinkin of doing)

i combined a...
pr4
b16a head
b18 block
3 layer headgasket
81 bore

me too i was gettin ready to purchase a block and everything then came upon the b20 walls. they say their great motors but cant handle hi rpms and hi boost. so b20 has to be out due to crappy walls

Can you fit pr4 into a b16 block? or do you need machine work?

well i wouldnt use the b16 block unless you upgrade the rods but you most likely will need machine work i think if im thinking right since pr4's are from a 1.8 and i think have a different bore size

B16a
B18A/b
B18c
All of them use a 81mm bore. Which means pistons swap freely between the motors. No machine work at all.
A stock LS motor is great for boost. There have been many use just like that. Friend here made just under 300 whp from a stock LS.

yea i know what you mean. and soon i will try n make something up with mixed parts jus to see what i get. i used that calculator and it gave me a realy low cr with a b16 n pr4s. but thats the good thing my sol came stock with the ys1 hydro tranny.so no need for a tranny. only some pistins and rods

i havent had a hard time getting my hands on hydro trannies for my cars. Ive had a gsr, and right now I have two B16a trannies.

sepends where you from and stiff. its easier to get when you live in a pace where the scene in big. if not you get stuff n have to travel fir parts

B18A1 runs 130bhp.
B18B1 runs 142bhp.
Cam profile is different between the A1 and B1. B1 cams have higher lift and longer duration than the A1 cams. They both have the same bore and stroke. They both can handle the same amount of boost.
Personally, I wouldn't pump more than 10psi into an LS. I saw a B18B1 crack a stock sleeve on 12psi. By cracked I mean broken. The rupture was 3in long in a curve and blown out towards the case of the block about 3/4". It was bad. He wasn't spinning any higher than 7500rpm. Just 500rpm higher than the stock redline of the B18B1.
