D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#331142 This might be a silly question but I just wanted to check anyway. In four stroke engine such as the D15B7 the crank moves twice for every single rotation the cam makes. My question is how do you ensure that the crank is set to the proper stroke? I know there is a pointer on the crank pulley, but that still doesn't help in my mind. Now the head is separated so I cannot set TDC using the cam gear. I could just look at the piston heads, but that still leaves me wondering if it is on the correct stroke. Some cars have windows on the tranny that tell when you are at the proper stroke I don't think the D15B7 has this though so I am left wondering. What to do?
