did some research, most del sols are between 2300-2500 pounds and coupes range from 2200-2400 pounds, given this was using 93 models for reference but looked at other eg years and not much of a difference, so they really arnt all that much heavier...if at all...so im fairly sure with the right set up a jdm d15b would suffice just fine while giving you decent gas milage if you want you can look at the weight list i found here http://www.hondacivicforum.com/forum/general-civic-talk-16/honda-weight-list-8863/
not only that but i have seen a large number of d16z6 powered del sols and they seem to do just fine, so obviously if you have a fat pig of a del sol, its most likely your set up. not hatin or talkin shit just informing peoples of what i researched
