#243998 I have not seen this. I love those trucks. An old friend of mine used to have one. It was on 33's, seriously some of the best trucks for off roading. They are so light they just climb over everything.

One night he was driving drunk in his eclipse and totalled it out. The next day he ran it over with the toyo. Took a couple tries to get it lined up but it was over in a couple of minutes.

Ever since my first time going off road in one of these i have wanted one. Other friends had rams and the like (I had a 93 s10 blazer w held its own). The toyota pulled a new superduty out of the mud one day after all the other trucks (most of them fullsize and with bigger...everything) had failed.

Unfortunately here in ohio it seems like all the ones that go for sale are rusted out as you said. Ive looked many times.

#257975 I finally got the truck on some real trails in Wellsville. It did pretty well!
Here's some pics:

and a video:

It's making some pretty loud diesel noise... time for new rod bearings. And there was a thin spot in the frame that is now a crack, so no offroading for a while...

If you've ever been to Wellsville, you'll probably agree that the truck was a little too nice to take down there. It was my first time and I found out very fast! I came back with a bent up bumper, cracked tail light, dent in lower bed corner, fender flare hanging on by 2 screws, and a new dent in drivers door. Next time I'm taking the bed off for sure!

#257987 Nice truck and video! looks like u wasted no time getting it out on the trails.

#257989 Damage happens... this was the first real off roading test so it should be all good now once the frame/engine is fixed.

No winch for me... It's still driven on the road a lot more than off road. Plus one of the guys I offroad with has a nice Warn winch so he saves everybody.

I'm buying a 1986 Toyota 4x4 tomorrow and parting it out, frame is bad. I got the whole truck for the price of the motor :woot:

The motor is going in my truck, only 110k on it and it sounds better than mine ever did :)

#260814 nice find. toyota pickups are very popular here. great price for the pickup. every thing here is all rotted away lol. must lean like a cholo with no sway bars ? what mods you got planed for it ?

get a solid bumper front rear. mount a winch. add lockers. and you should be set for anything :woot:

I'd love a build front bumper but they're big bucks... same for the winch. So my budget plan is to not get stuck :) One of the guys I wheel with has a winch, he's saved me a couple times. Truck is already locked front & rear.

The springs are stiff enough for road driving that it's able to take corners about as fast as a normal car when I have the 33 BFG AT's on.
With the 35" DC Mud COuntry tires on, it's all over the place lol.

I already put a 106k mi 22r in from an 86. And repaired the inner frame rails this summer because one of them was already getting thin and rusting through
I parted out the 86 and actually made a profit + have every spare part I need. Then I bought an 87 for the fiberglass bed and I'm in the process of parting that one out to make some profit. Both trucks had rotten frames beyond repair.

Working on these trucks usually ends up in a pile of rust on the floor.

Here's the new inner frame rail on the 85:

After welding in I coated it with POR 15 :thumb:

#280121 I don't have the new bed on yet... still need to paint it to match. For now I'm rocking a quick home depot wood bed:

I took it off roading like this last weekend:
