#344783 Well, I'm 90% sure I need new piston rings. After searching for a while, symptoms of damaged rings are as follows:

- White or Gray smoke from exhaust
- Low compression numbers
- Oil deposits on the spark plugs
- lack of acceleration power
- overall loss of power or poor performance
- excessive oil consumption

My car exhibits almost all of these symptoms.
When I took her on her maiden voyage about a month ago, she I was flooring it and she was barely accelerating. I'm gonna consult with my mechanic further, but I'm pretty certain that this is the problem.

#344786 pm'ed back. I am selling my motor dirt cheap bc I need to get rid of it for new motor setup. No need. Nothing needs to be replaced on motor other an oil change. clutch/tranny is in mint condition. You can change the mtf on it tho. the price I am asking is a steal with tranny. I have yet to see how much shipping will run me as I never shipped a motor before. It will be about 2 weeks before I can ship it to you tho.

#344815 Pm'd you back.

Well, we dropped the oil pan and cleaned the oil screen that's below the crankshaft. Still smokes a lot, but now oil is definitely going strong. My brother thinks it's the timing, my dad thinks it's an oil problem, and I think it's the piston rings. I just don't even know anymore. Will be making a call to my mechanic tomorrow, since today is easter. Oh, and Happy Easter!

#344832 good luck with car. with the price of an entire motor vs cost to fix it and new parts. Your better off with buy a new motor. Now is a time for a motor swap!
By Axix23
#344837 This is the exact motor I am selling: http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/d15b-so ... 96-00.html

As you can see, its $880 shipped. And all motors you buy are all used.
There is no such as a brand new engine. Unless you want to buy 1 from Honda and piece it together. And I am not even sure if you can buy a brand new d15 engine from Honda. And if you could, it would cost 5x what your car is worth and prolly more than a nice b16/b18 engine..

#344845 I think you guys are right. My father has different thoughts.
He wants us to replace the rings ourselves. I told him that I don't
wanna risk us screwing something up. There's too much that could go wrong.
If I have my mechanic replace the rings, he'll probably charge over $500 to
pull the engine and replace them. So, If I can convince my dad, I'll try and do
a swap.

#344877 Change of plans. Will be replacing the pistons and rings.
Don't have enough money for a new engine.

#344914 What if after changing the rings/pistons and your still knocking? :/

#344928 Then I don't know what it could be.
Can't be the valve cover seal, we replaced it a month ago.

#344949 Thanks, will do. Having trouble finding piston rings that are the right size.
If someone could check my last post on my other thread and give some
feedback, that'd be cool!
