Blow of Valve question

I've always wantted to know this but never bothered to ask but here goes...
On a turbo blow of valve you can have hard and soft set ups . can someone tell me the differences this will give you ?

the sound will change. on hard it will be more sutle, on soft it will be loud and noticable

No, not necessarily. its not just that sound will change, its the that you can change the pressure at which a plunger or whatever, will release the boost pressure when the throttle buttefly plate is closed...i think thats what your talking about!

blowoff valve is not a performance part.
All it does is prevent the turbo from spinning the other way when you forcefully shut the throttle. The turbo is still pushing air towards the throttle bdy and when you let off the throttlebody stops.. the air is still pushing fast and has to go somewhere. Since it is a closed system, it will find its way out..and if its way out is the same way it came back it, it will damage the turbo.
The blowoff valve is setup to relieve the air when the throttle body is closed.
hard and soft is mainly to adjust how stiff the spring inside the blowoff valve is. the highest pressure in the system, the harder you need to adjust the valve. It just so happens, it is like a whistle and changing the hard and soft settings minorly can affect the way the air rushing out sounds hense the PPSSSTTT.
