P28 questions

So i have my eyes on a previous turbo swap that was in my car. Its a d15b vtec Obd1. It has a garret turbo kit on it. It has got a gm 3bar map wired in and a chipped p28. I bought my car(roller) it had this previous swap in it working fine.Buddy took out the swap and tried to get it working in a 00 dx. I am pretty sure he burnt up the injector driver in the ecu.

My question is how can i tell what chipped ecu it is? I want to buy it back off him and get it working back in the car it came out of .But i want to know what is what. Also the problem he has came down to dsm 450 blue tops not wired properly frying the ecu. I am going with rc 440s if i get it i believe.

Please be gentle i am COMPLETLY new to the turbo scene.

Sounds like he didn't have the resistor box wired correctly for the dsm 450's?

I wouldn't bother messing with a fried ecu. P28's are plenty and you can get find them for $100 all day. Unless you're good w/ electronnics :wink:

yes we got at the car. I had no idea what the box was at the time. So we used the odb2b->obd1 jumper harness.Wire 3 wire to a2 wire iacv yada yada... The car ran good for a bit then bamm she strated flooding herself. So he then tried the stock 240 ??s or 220? which ever it is and i guess she just fried the ecu. So his plan is now to get some radioshack resistors and wire them in directly and if that dont work he will sell me the swap...

So my question is what type of ecu will i need to avoid a tune ? It was at 7 psi in my car and his.... I want that soooooo freaking bad!!! lol So do you suggest getting some rc 320s/440s to avoid a resistor box or will the resitor box do fine. Keep in mind i am wiring it to my odb1 eg... What it came out of in the first place...

that setup will require a tune with any (chipped) ecu
and you want high-impedance injectors to use with an obd1 ecu or use a resistor box with peak & hold injectors

Yeah, you can't tune the ecu to work with low impedance injectors, it's in the hardware of the ecu. So a resistor box is a must and will do fine when wired up properly.
They're great for budget builds because a $10 resistor box and set of $50 DSM 450's is a lot cheaper than a set of RC's... there's just a little extra wiring work involved. :thumb:

but what i am saying the set up was fine previously.Tuned then he put it in his car and i think the ecu is fried. What if i used identical resitor boxs and dsm 450s like before with another ecu like his

so you want to remove the chip from the fried ecu and put it into another working P28 and use that tune exactly the same as it was before?
Then in theory, since you would be using the exact same fuel setup as when the ecu was originally tuned, everything should work perfectly?

Well, every car is different, so I would get a fresh tune anyways... but you'll have a great base tune to start from :thumb:

pretty much yes i want to pretty much restore it to what it was previous.It was running perfectly with no issues before it was poked into the ek :(. A cop from ontario owned it and got stationed to newfoundland

Cjw, if you toasted your ecu a lot of times it will throw a code 43 for the injector test circuit, though not always.

These are repairable though not always. It is slightly more difficult then just chipping an ecu.

If it is dead and you're not up to fixing id be interested in buying it from you. Even if it is not repairable they are good to salvage parts from.
