2000 d16 y8 boost on stock internals any experiance??

Hey guys I swaped into my hatch a clean d16y8 motor i changed all the old gaskets and seals to new ones and new water and new timing belt ac belt ect.... Now i want to boost it how much power can i get out with stock internals on a good tune on this block? any experiance with this block?

8 to 9 psi safe on a good tune... idk about hp prob in the 250whp area im guessing... the b motors stock internals are good for like 350 whp so im kinda jus guessing about a sohc's limit lol... but id say my numbers would lean a bit on the safer side of the spectrum if anything... but honestly a y8 on psi would be strong, a good tune is key tho :thumb:

Really thats pretty decent considering in the next year ill be going with a b series motor. Anyone else with experience with this block?

250 is on the high side, but is do able. Most of the cars that come to the shop to get tuned that are stock sohc's leave with between 190-220hp and have lasted years. There are a few rare occasions when we see a 250hp pull

600hp SIIICCKK!!! Nice build.. looks like you eat sleep and dream with single cams thanks i think i have drawn my conclusion. im just going to spend the extra penny and build my block the right way. thanks guys

i ran a edelbrock kit on my d16y8 for over a year at 9psi with no problems, gave it alot of stick too...

from what I remember there is a little issue with oil starvation at higher rpms. those who know about this usually take the oil pump off and port the holes to allow better flow.

its cause they only have 1 oil port on the crank and the z6 has 2

but my experiance wit a y8 was awesome!
they love add-ons

Hey man im actully in the middle of boosting my Y8.... I have everything i need right now just need to put all on and tune it...
