Intercooler Piping Kits

I have crappy 2.5" steel piping with ugly flux core welds that the guy gave me with the turbo. They're heavy steel too.

I'm going to replace them with 2.5" Aluminum

Anyone have any experience with the ebay kits? They are usually around $80 - $100.

This one is one of the few that include T clamps instead of hose clamps:

All on the ones in the ~$100 range don't have rolled bead ends. I know they can prevent the hose slipping off, but is it worth an extra $100 for the bead rolled ends?

I would go for it. TBH it would probably cost you more to buy the alu tube and get it bent to shape. It's a good starting point anyway. As for the rolled ends I really wouldn't be too bothered about it unless you were running loads of boost. The only thing I would say is if the rubber joints do start to leak it would be a good idea to weld in some lock tabs to the tubes. Once the pipes are in place and the rubber tubes installed weld some alloy tabs to the ends of each pipe (before the rubber tubes) so that they meet in the middle and overlap the rubber tubes, drill a hole in each tab, and bolt them together. Now you have some alu tube with rubber connections that can't blow apart due to vibration etc, as they are all bolted together!!! :D
I'll try and find a pic to show what I mean!!! 8)

kit looks good to me!

cant you just weld or bend the lip on each pipe so the samco's dont slip off?

doesnt really matter if it dont look good because the samco will cover that up.

all the kits do the same thing so theres no need to spend $200 on a kit when you can get the same thing for $100

get some hump hoses on the charge piping so that way they flex when the motor torques and you dont loose your boost

anybody know by chance if a kit for 96-00 will work on an EG?

I found a good deal on a kit for an EK, I figure there can't be much modification to make it work.....

Yeah I know the EF's are completely different with the placement of the battery, EK bays look a lot like EG's :thumb:

But then again, the only right place for a battery is in the trunk.
On a Civic or CRX EF (or ED/EE in Holland) it's enough space to mount Civic/CRX EG or EK intake piping (wether it's a CAI or charge air piping).

And just get the 96-00 piping, should be fine :)

well the kit I was watching was nice, had bead rolled ands and T clamps, but of course it went for $275, just like all the kits with bead rolled ends and T clamps. The ones that cost $100 all have cheap hose clamps and no rolled ends on the pipe.

Then I searched without the word "civic" and found a good kit for a good price at http://stores.ebay.com/Just-Intercoolers
it's a seller's store and I got one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-INTE ... 0131073353

2.5" mandrel bent aluminum, rolled ends, silicone couplers, T-clamps.

I also liked that this kit came with 2 180? bends instead of piecing together 4 90? bends.

That kit completes my turbo setup! (I'm sure I'll need something after I get started though)

paypal was sent before I even posted about it :D ... I wasn't letting that one pass by! Then I saw they have a bunch of them in their store, in 2.25, 2.5, 2.75, and 3" kits. If it arrives and looks as good as it does in the pics/description, then that's the best deal I've ever seen on the internet period. :thumb:
