#335776 Hello, all! I know, it's been a looooong time since you've seen me, but I'm back and of course, I have a new project!

ABOUT THE BUILD & THE INSPIRATION BEHIND IT:

I went with the white/purple scheme on this car in memory of my deceased young cousin Brooke Snyder. She passed away in December of 2011 due to a brain tumor. Her favorite color was purple, which explains the bits of purple seen on this car. The purpose behind this build is to build a SOHC powered car that is track capable and able to win race purses for charity to donate to all of the St. Jude's Children's Hospitals in the United States. We are working on a fundraising project called "The Race For The Cure". I have a small team of dedicated individuals that are helping move the project along by volunteering their time to drop by my place and assist me in working on the car. We have given the team the name "Boonie Built". Kind of cheesy and made to be funny, but it suits us. We are nothing more than some boondock boys that love to wrench and build, so that's how it came about. All and all, this car is dedicated to the loving memory of Brooke. She is what is motivating us to do this complex, huge, and expensive build, but it's a small price to pay as compared to human life. May she rest in peace.

A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT IT AND WHAT'S DONE SO FAR:

1994 CX with a D16Y8 swap. The Y8 is going through a full build. Currently installed are the following: Balanced & Micropolished crankshaft, ARP Rod Bolts, ARP Head Studs, ACL Race Bearings, Vitara FJT I-Beam Connecting Rods, CP Carillo 9.6-1 Comp 75mm Forged Pistons, Bisimoto Level 2 Billet Cam, Bisimoto Pro Valve Spring & Retainer Kit, NGK Blue Spark Plug Cables, Stage 2 Exedy Clutch, 10lb Flywheel, P28 ECU, and a D15B7 Distributor.

WHAT IS COMING AS THE BUILD PROGRESSES:

D15B7 750cc injectors, upgrade to Bisimoto level 3.6 turbo duty cam, Venom VHQ timing gear, Head work; Milling, porting & polishing, and 3-angle valve job, Ferrea valve kit, bore 0.20 over to 75.50mm, CP 75.50mm 8.5-1 comp forged pistons, upgrade to stage 4 clutch, DSS axles, Frank's Custom Fiberglass 3 Pce WdeBdy front end, M/H slicks on Lenso 13X7.5 4X100 rims for the front, BTX6565 TC, Bisimoto Godzilla BOV, TiAL WG, Custom Turbo-Exhaust Mani made by Moore's Automotive, Custom D16Z6 Outlaw intake manifold by Bisimoto, CCC Racing Drag Wing, Rear Diffuser, full track Tune by Moore's Automotive, Harmonic balanced crank pulley, upgrade to knife-edged crankshaft, sleeve the block using Darton sleeves, FCS Race track diaper for EG chassis, tubular subframe, Fortune Auto Fortune 500 Coilovers, Racing Aluminum Fuel Cell, Walbro 400lph fuel pump, AEM Fuel Rail, AEM Water - Meth injection kit, AEM EMS, and a Gear Box rebuild.

We are unsure of what numbers will be put down in the end, but we are hoping for and building for a 650+ BHP car. If we get 650 BHP, I'll be more than happy and we hope to be in the mid - high 9s 1/4 mile bracket.

Here are some pics of the progress so far!

Let me know what you all think and I hope everyone can respect the build, as it isn't being done for just myself, but my little cousin who is now an angel in heaven. Hope you guys like what you see so far and stay tuned, as there is plenty more to come! Thanks!

#335779 What great motivation for a build... Brooke is watching this and proud of your dedication :thumb:

Sounds like you've done a lot of research for your modifications too 8)

The only thing I'm wondering is why shoot for boosted 600+ hp on a d15b7 instead of starting with a d16z6 which has the slightly larger main bearings? You will have a better flowing head to start with too.

Thank you very much! Greatly appreciated and yes she is. I've always said that she will be driving the car, not me. Also, yessir. Can't afford to attempt to pull something like this off without having the homework done. Rather than just throw some random stuff here and there and say it's a "Track Car", we actually sat down for 3 weeks straight and calibrated this setup through my tuner, a few other HondaHeads, a D-Series specialist, and boat ton of formulas and math (Which nearly killed my head), but we now know which route we are taking.

Also, about the Z6 and the higher possibilities and reliability, we pondered on a few things. The idea has even been tossed about to do a "Stroke" on the engine using a D17 crank, but we have kind of leaned away from it seeing that this engine is going to already be pressed to around 150 hp per cylinder and our setup hasn't been calibrated for a custom stroke like that. We would have to sit down and re-calculate everything again lol. It would make more sense to use the Z6 as the base and build it up to the standards we are building this one, but we decided to try something different and see how she holds up.

If we constantly blow apart, we will definitely go back to the drawing board and probably turn to a Z6 for our powerplant. A head swap has been tossed around and may just happen, but I'm not sure just yet. Thanks again, man! Greatly appreciated!

#335839 Made some progress today!! So that means... New pics!

WHAT GOT DONE:

Engine harness installed, #1 fuse box wired (Minus one wire), Passenger side mount (Trans Mount) installed to bell housing, starter installed to bell housing, all harness clips / connector terminals cleaned, test fit all clips / connectors, connected body harness to the engine harness, and the heater core hoses were flushed and are clear. Always good to have a clean head with clean and healthy intake ports, so I checked after removing that stock fuel rail, pressure regulator, injectors, and intake mani. Now, just waiting on the new OBX mani, RC 750s, AEM rail and regulator to get here.

#336367 Well, here is what has been going on in the past week! ALOT! Getting chassis work done, including some custom fabrication. Alot of pictures, so pay close attention. Enjoy and let me know what y'all think!

Rear Bumper turned into a diffuser to reduce drag:

Removing spot welds on rad core support to remove lower bar ends for fitment of the large intercooler:

Completed rear bumper:

After making final measurements, we discovered that the bumper still wouldn't fit over the intercooler, so the front bumper saw some sawzall action:

That's all we have for now, but stay tuned for more. Sure, she doesn't look her greatest, but it's gotta do for now until we can get that 3 piece front end and order the actual rear diffuser plate. Enjoy! Constructive criticism only please.

Thanks, man! Much appreciated! Here are some updates to the car!

Engine is now in the car, but not fully mounted yet. Still getting a few more things. For anybody wondering why the turbo kit has not yet been installed, it's simple. Piping still hasn't arrived, nor has the turbo exhaust manifold. Plus, there are other things that need to be done before the engine can be dubbed as "Complete" to the point where installing the turbo kit would be necessary. I hope you all enjoy the progress shots that are presented here. It's been a long build and it still is. Lots of parts are lacking and that will likely remain the case for quite some time due to the price of said parts and the budget I am working with.

Thanks for your support this far everyone! :)

#344604 UPDATES!!!!

Wow! Everything has been so hectic, that I haven't really had a chance to upload all of the progress that has been made in the past months!

ALOT has happened since my last post.

In terms of cosmetics: Black housing head lamps were installed.

In terms of performance, one of the biggest feats, was myself successfully custom fabricating, yes, that means making HOME MADE, Aluminum Defuser Plates!!

In other news:
The block and head have seen their machining work and new specs have been determined, adn everything has been reassembled. However, not that I have an issue with anybody on this forum, but because of some potentially becoming "Future Competition", I will not be sharing my new build specifications nor any "Engine Porn" pictures of internals and special components, how they are setup, etc, etc, so please respect that. I will just let you know that the system is now Dry-Sump with metal filter, block is notched, bored, decked, honed, and sleeved with Darton Dry Sleeves as well as Knife-Edged crankshaft w/ Harmonic Balancer Pulley. I am trying to see if I can find anyone that makes a complete Cam Trigger kit for D-Series to run a "Distributorless" system with Coils, but no luck so far. 1,600 cc / 145 lb per hour injectors @43.5 psi @ BSFC 0.63 @ 80% max duty cycle have been ordered. Head is milled, ported, polished, resurfaced, and sports a 3 angle valve job. The system is bullet-proofed and built to handle the abuse of up to 750 WHP, but built to make 665-670 WHP on a good day with superior air quality on VP Q16 to assist in preventing detonation. That's all I'll publicly release. NOW, the good stuff!! PICTURES OF THE CAR!!!! :D

#344605 Hi mate, I'm sorry about your cousin :(, nice project and I hope is going to be strong enough for the competition , try to make it as light as possible and cover useless holes for better aerodynamics, try to take the exhaust from the front bumper, less pipes to weld . Kind regards.

Thanks, man. I appreciate it.She's very light. All crash bars have been deleted, sound deading mats are gone, and bottome rad core support beam is gone. Radiator is being mounted on high grade aluminum mounting brackets with one steel cross member coming off of the top core support beam. As for the holes, they actually improve aero. Those plates with holes are defuzer plates I made from scratch. They prevent the rear bumper from acting like a parachute and causing drag. Those holes allow air to move freely through the rear bumper rather than air getting caught by the rear bumper, which slows the car down. As for the exhaust, it will be coming out of the front bumper. Don't want to do the hood pipe for multiple reasons.

One, any oil and carbon will be blown directly onto my windshield, which is no good. And secondly, a hood pipe is easier access for debris and water. Front bumper pipe is the way I plan on going. You were spot on that one. Thanks again, man! Greatly appreciate the feedback! Cheers! :)
