This is a question I have for one of my boys. He said that as he is driving, his speedometer needle jumps? I told him I didn't know but i know where I can find out. So what do you think?

Jumps up or down? Is it when he brakes? More info! Check battery and alternator connections.

I had the same issue with my old hatch, it ended up being the cluster itself,

I have the same problem in my 95 coupe. I replaced the VSS and its still out of control. I took it to a tach/speedometer specialist shop and they said its the entire cluster. I'm now trying to find a used cluster so I don't have to buy one new from Honda.

Its the cluster normally unless the vss isnt bolted down tight. If you take out the cluster and move the speedo needle it should have resistance and go back to zero on its own. When it wears out it wont go back.

I've always found that when the speedo jumps like that, it turns out to be a bad VSS or connection.
Very rarely have they been the cluster for me.

I have seen a lot more vss' than clusters also. I did just replace one last week in an coupe that was the cluster. Would work ok at times but when it would get really cold it would bounce around badly and even stick at 110 when driving 30 and no check engine light. Most vss' I have dealt with will throw a light at some point.

i my self had this problem too, im jus crusin along 70km crusin , i look down n my spedo drops to 0km while im crusin 70 still, i let off the gas a notch, n then press down agin to regain my 70km n the spedo comes back to life @ 70km , this happend a few more times down the road, but that was the only time it happend, only thing i cud think of was a couple of peel outs i did early in the day
