I was wondering something about youtube... I was under the impression that you're not supposed to put ads on videos that were created using content that was not 100% yours. (pics, vid clips, music etc)

I thought that if they caught you doing so, it would count as a strike on your account.

I remember that when reading their agreement before monetizing some of my videos.

In some of the videos I clearly thank people for having their car painted to make this pic compilation possible. I also state that I don't own any of the songs and I give credit if I know who owns it.

They also won't monetize it without proper ownership

That's what I thought... Then how did you get the ads on yours? Or did Youtube put those ads on automatically?

I have a couple of vids I made that have copyrighted music and youtube put an ad on them w/o my permission and they collect any revenue from people who click on them.

Youtube put the ads on them when I click the monetize when I edit my video. They won't put it on mine if I don't click on the monetize box.

That's crazy when they put an ad...you sure you didn't click monetize for that video?

Yeah I didn't want to because I had it linked to a page on a website. But they sent me a note that said "because you used copyrighted music, we're putting ads in your video and you don't get any $ from them"
I was like ok cause I didn't really want to remove the video. it's only like .06 per click anyways.

So did you have to use the 'creative common' license? or just the regular one?
