h.i.d. conversion questions.

So i really want to do an H.i.d. conversion to my ride but i have a few questions about it. First of all i have stock glass headlights. I'm not a fan of any aftermarket headlights i've seen so I would prefer to keep it that way but have heard about glare I believe... Also I've heard that the kits they sell are of poor quality. Is this only as far as certain brands or what? Clealy I would like to do it for as cheap as possible, so if theres a price difference between a retrofit and a kit then I'm confident i could do either one. lastly if a few of you have done a retrofit and could list the parts needed, that would be appreciated. Thank you all.
Mel

Here's a good thread to read:

Stock headlights will have to go. Denji projectors are the closest to stock I have seen. Mr Pink is working on setting up a group buy for them if interested... or do a retrofit :thumb:

Do I need to modify something with the wiring if I want some HIDs and I got STOCK OEM headlights? Actually, from where I live we don't care about glare. Don't ask me why but that's the way it is.

ok i read over the thread and now get why stock headlight wouldnt be safe or legal.
is there any way to modify it to make it work? im an oem light nazi, and hate the look of anything else, besides maybe denji.

If you don't care about glare, then the easiest/cheapest option will be a plug and play kit like the ones sold on ebay. Output still won't be as good as a nice set of projectors though. I feel sorry for oncoming drivers at night though

Thanks "92egdxhatch". Yeah it really seems unusual but that's the way it is in here. Because the brighter your lights are, the better. We have a lot of very aggresive drivers in here, so the brights lights will warn the oncoming drivers and make them slow down a bit.

its not the brightness of hids in stock headlights thats the problem, all of the extra light collects at the top of the head light, it will be like driving with spot lights mounted to your hood toward oncoming traffic.

Oh I see, so that means projectors is the only way to go.

you can modify your stock headlight housings to accept OEM projectors and hid bulbs this is called a retro fit, as it uses all OEM components. standard projectors for non hid systems from what Ive read are not really up to the task of hids.
