Speedo isnt working all the time

Ok, so I've owned my 92 si hatch for about 6 months and the speedo has worked always.

But starting a week or two ago, its started to jump around, and often fall to zero. It usually bounces back to the correct speed but I feel like its getting progressively worse, and staying at zero longer.

Could the cable going to the tranny be messed up or maybe the gear? If that's how civics speedos work, any input is appreciated!

Had the same issue in my old hatch, Cluster is fucked, if you were wanting to get a JDM or EDM cluster now is the time.

I haven't taken out the cluster gauge but in old toyota's, it is a cable. With the age of the car, the cable grease is dried up. To save and not need to purchase a new cable, try pushing some grease into the cable. This will resolve your bouncy speedo.

92-95 civics tachs are VSS (digitally) controlled

greasing up will help though on the cable driven speedo's

had this happen to me, it would bounce around and be stuck on some random number...had to replace the cluster in the dash.

used this opportunity to install some gauge faces :thumb: rarely the VSS's fail

I had a faulty alternator to battery connection and it did the same thing. Just something else to look at. 8)
