I have a stock (besides air-intake) '95 Hatchback, based on pictures I think it has a D15B7 but Id be happy to check if you tell me where to look.

What would cause the following......

When the car is running it smells like a chemical is burning in the engine bay, there are no leaks (ive looked hard) and I dont know much about this.

Also, I dont know if it is related but the exhaust has a very strong smell to it, so bad that I cant really sit still with the engine running.

Any ideas.....

ps. Im trying to learn, so if you simply think I should take it to the shop dont bother to post, that only a last resort.

is the black charcoal canister still in the bay on the firewall? Some people rip it out cause it looks unattractive... they they complain about fumes coming from the engine bay into the cabin.

I went by Autozone and the guy said its "burning oil", that doesnt sound good but he said its no big deal.

Is that normal?

most of the people at Autozone are retarded. If you are not getting a bluish white smoke out of the exhaust when you start it and when you accelerate, its not burning oil! Now I agree with the other guys, it might be your cat. They notoriously smell like rotten eggs or some other pungent smell when they are going bad. Check that first and go from there.
