dead spot on starter

My beater didn't crank over today, turns out the starter has a dead spot. A couple taps with a hammer on the starter and it fired right up.

I'm not going to be able to work on it for another week at least... Once the starter gets a dead spot, is there any normal amount of time until it is completely done and the hammer trick wont even work?

I'm carrying a hammer in my car until I can fix it, but don't wanna get stranded when the whole starter goes before I can replace it.

well if its 5spd you can just jump start it by pushing to a certain speed and having it in like second gear and pop starting it anyhow the hammer trick should last depending on how big the dead spot is about 2weeks give or take or even less im not completely sure since electronics have a mind of their own....

ok cool. I have 2 automatic starters but no extra manual ones. I'm going to see if I can take apart an auto and put the guts into the manual.. there might be a DIY coming soon :hehe:
