Oil Pumps - Have you ever had any issues?

Hi all,

I have my engine (D16Z6) off at the machine shop to be checked over and I'll be assembling it, when I do, should I replace the oil pump? Has anyone had any issues with Honda oil pumps? Low pressure or anything? The reason I ask is coming from the Supra world, with the 7M (which have some major bottom end issues w/ oil pump issues too) we usually buy a new pump when rebuilding and shim the spring in the pump to get some more pressure. I want to make sure this new engine get plenty of oil.

Thanks!

If it has high miles then I'd get a new OEM pump while the motor is apart.

Yea, I agree with that. I've allready ordered one to be sure but I figured I'd ask around to learn more about these engines.

Thanks.

Also on the D16z6, there's no need to modify the pump. On the D16y8 engines some people shim because those motors have been said to have a mysterious oil starvation issue, but the D16z6 is good to go out of the box :thumb:
