ok my girls eg8 was driving down the freeway today and just turned off ass she started to go up a hill and when you try to start it it just keeps turning over when i got there my first thought was she lost spark so i put a brand new distributer on it and tried that but still the same thing she has a full tank and the timing belt looks good so (not missing any teeth) im lost what should i check next

fuel pump is working
main relay clicks after fuel pump primes
full tank of gas
brand new distributer
grounds look good

please any thoughts would be great im trying to get it back running asap thanks

put the car to tdc (top dead center) and see if it lines up right. it may have jumped time.

it may be the ecu as well

did you use the old dizzy cap? or check it. it might be fried out. or the rotor button. im not sure if the new dizzys come with those never had to buy one new.

did you check fuel pressure at the rail? maybe the filter is clogged up?

Have you checked if you have spark? if you dont it might be the little spring in the dizzy cap not on correctly. That and the dizzy not being tight enough have got me in the past.

Hopefully that will help get you running agian.

Check your timing with a timing light before taking your timing belt off. Just to make sure thats the issue. Maybe you can adjust the dizzy to get it fire off. Its better to find that out now before taking off the belt.

Good luck man. :thumb:

I had the exact same problem on a d-15 and it turned out that I bent the valves and had to replace the whole head. I had a brand new timing belt and new distributer and it crancked over but when I took the valve cover off and cranked it manually u can actually feel the timing belt get tight in a particular place consistantly. But then again it's always something totally different from car to car. Hope this helps

That's what I was thinking... if the belt was loose and slipped, it may have caused piston-valve contact = bent valves which will kill compression which is what you need along with air, fuel & spark to run.

I would do a compression test.

Would that cause the block To fail afterwards or would u just suggest to get another engine altogether??

time is money and D series are cheap. I'd just get another D series to get back on the road. You may be able to just replace the head though and live with a few nicks in your pistons. You'll find out when you pull the head and survey the damage - if this is the case.
