When you get your car "tuned" the Computer that runs your engine(ECU) is edited to run better with the modifications that have been done to your engine.
Hondata S200 and S300 are good tuning options, There are other cheaper options out there as well, Such as Uberdata and Nepture for much less money. Crome is also out there, Not really that good of a path.
You need to get your car "tuned" after Turbo/Super Charging your engine, Putting in a cam, Installing different injectors(pointless w/o other mods that would require tuning anyways), etc. After basic Intake headers and exhaust you dont NEED a tune, however a good tuner will pick up some stray ponys.
There are quite a few cool tuning options such as 2step and many gear based corrections.
I highly recommend talking to a tuner, explain what you want to do and they can get you there or tell you what to do to get you there.
Hope that helps.
that helped

That was a very good explanation. Thanks. You said if you put in a cam you can tune it, so you can convert a SOHC VTEC into a DOHC VTEC? Would it be better to swap a B series into my EJ1 or to get a tubo\supercharger to my D series and make it a DOHC? Just asking to know how much money I need to save up to. Thanks!

My first question is can you make a SOHC engine a DOHC engine just by adding a cam?

And my second question is what b series engine is good? Or should I turbo my D series? What's better?

all b series motors have their pro's and con's just depends on what you really wanna do with the motor. If you turbo your d I recommend building the motor first that way you can boost more
ok

Ok do you have any suggestions on what mods I should do to the engine before turbo? Thanks.

first arp head studs than fuel mods (injectors, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator) you only need to build it if you plan to boost alot but if not stock interals can take a beating

yeah basically what he said. gotta get aftermarket parts that can withstand a lot. If you build it right and get a good turbo you can boost 18pounds

No. You cant do this.
Swappying in a Bseries IMO is always a better choice. You can still do everything to the B that you were going to do to the D and you will have more torque. Which is what all of us honda folk need.
Mods to do before turbo:
D series mods:
Eagle Rods
Vitara Pistons
Block Guard
New bearings (main/Rod)
B series mods:
Same as D, just different brands. Cant go with Vitara pistons with a B motor.
As far as your head is concerned. You dont have to do anything to them, but a few things will mean loads of power.
Port and polish
Turbo cam
Cam gears
Valve springs and retainers
better Intake manifold and throttle body.
And the most important part of ANY MOTOR BUILD is the tune. DO NOT DRIVE on a UNTUNED motor.
AEM EMS
Hondata
CRome
ECtune
and so on.

Yes you can!.. there is a DOHC D engine that honda produced i forget the engine code it self, wanna say its a d16y5, and its vtec, however its obdo but it is possible. However its a turd... better off just going and getting a 96-00 SI engine and trans..
