I stumbled upon a killer deal on a 94 hatch the other day. The guy i talked to said it had the 1.5 motor in it. He also said the motor only has about 30,000 miles on it and comes with a complete turbo setup for it. I havent went to look at it yet, but what kind of power can i make with this motor when i turbo it? Im wantin about 300 horses. Is that going to be easy to get?

depends on what d15 it is? I highly doubt it has 30k on it it. Make sure you check for rust EVERYWHERE. Also, if your talking about a stock d15 I dont think it can handle 300+hp unless internals and good tune are done. my 2 cents

JDM D15B's are common to be imported with ~30k miles on them
But for 300 HP turbo setup, you'll need to dump a lot into the bottom end.
Forged rods & pistons, ARP hardware & head studs, possibly block guard, and some head work will help you meet your goal along with a cam.

If the motor is a D15b7,b8 then forget about it

If i get it I will be re-doing everyting, especially the bottom end. I will definately be puttin in a block guard, doing all kinds of head work, cams, all that stuff. The turbo is a t3/t4. I highly doubt it has 30,000 miles on it to hatchin06, because if the guy has either bought a motor, i would think it would be bigger, and if hes rebuilt it then why didnt he put the turbo on it? From what he said on the phone it sounds a little strange. How much boost would i have to push to get me to 300 hp if i dont bore the block,just hone it, but do a little bit of everything else to it?

no need to bore unless it is high mileage. bore only goes from 75mm to 75.5mm anyways, so that's no going to do anything for power.
You can't really look at it in terns of how many psi will I have to run with a t3/t4 turbo to hit 300 WHP.
It all depends on how efficient and built the rest of your set up is, and the biggest factor is tuning.

Things that will make a difference are engine compression, intake manifold (we still don't know what D15 it is- if it's not a JDM D15B then don't bother reading on... lol), Manifold design, trim of turbo, downpipe design & exhaust dia., muffler type, intercooler & piping dia. head work and cam, fuel & engine management and tuning. There's a lot of factors, but in a nut shell yes it is possible to hit 300 on a built sohc with stock sleeves if the bottom end is built for it (don't forget clutch too) and it is tuned well

alright...Sorry for so many questions but Im a little bit of a noob with turbos. all i have ever done is read about them and stuff, but, TUNING...What is the most reliable,but also, cost efficient and user friendly tuner? Im probably gonna have to trailer it about 3 hours to get it tuned..after that i would like to have the knowledge to make minor tweaks to my setup. What is the ideal compression ratio for a turbo setup? Ive always thought about 8.5:1. Is that right, or can my compression be a little bit higher? thanks for the help.
