#337200 Hi peeps,

I need your help for troubleshooting my car. It's a 1992 civic hatch with d16a6 block.

The problem:

I was able to crank up the engine and it runs well at times... Other times it doesn't. I need to press the acceleration paddle upon starting up the car and I need to keep pressing the throttle (maintain the rpm at min 1000/2000) in order to keep the engine running, if not the engine will die on me.

I can still drive my car on the road but I just cant stop/idle (i.e. junctions/red lights etc.). Once I stopped, the engine will just go dead.

Any civic veterans able to help as went to 2 workshops and none able to verify what went wrong. Thanks in advance!

#337209 What is the history of this car. Is it new? Did you swap the engine or did this problem just happen one day while driving? A6 block... what head? What ECU?

My best leads given the lack of information: Check that the IACV is working and then check the cam timing. The belt may have slipped a tooth. Also possible that the ignition timing is way off.

#337231 i would assume the IACV as well..

if ur in klang valley there would be an abundance of honda specialists who can help check it.

i also have low idle issues....happened after my engine overheated due to my thermostat stuck on close... removed the thermostat now all good except for that damn idle.. cold starts are a pain in the a$$...i have to sit for 5 mins in the car maintaining the idle at 1k rpm and very slowly releasing the throttle after temps has raised a lil sheesh.

planning on taking the car to camzone in ttdi jaya shah alam this weekend to take a peek at it (since theyre also the ones who sorted my overheat)

#337242 Sorry for the lack on info suspendedhatch and madman. Thanks for your advice on the IACV.

More backgrounds info:

Its a 1993 civic saloon EX with stock ecu (I assume is P28) which I bought in 1998 with no mod whatsoever by the previous owner and the correct engine will be a D15B stock with no mods either.

Bro SuspendedHead, this happens about 2 mths ago. It happened about once a month now its quite often about once a week.

Bro Madman, where will u recon me to check the car? Do u hav the address for camzone in TTDI?

Thanks again seniors!

#337249 Madman, put a thermostat in your car.

alvin1983, your first thread says D16A block and now you're saying stock D15B. Is it a D16A with a D15B head?

Headswaps and headgasket changes on Hondas are most often done incorrectly. You have to replace the head studs with brand new, chase the threads, and torque them in steps. You have to resurface the head and the block. If it isn't done by the book, it will fail within a couple of months.

Many people assume you can do a Honda head replacement like you can any other type of car. You can't. Tolerances are very tight.

Camzone fb page.

https://www.facebook.com/camzone.motorsports

theres also fast autoworks in sri muda which is the workshop that built my engine.

@suspendedHatch
noted... will putting a thermostat sort out my low idle issue? coz even after a long drive the idle is still low... turning on the AC is a pain and also good exercise for my starter

suspendedHatch, sorry for the confusion. Got the wrong info, should be D15B and not D16A. Thanks for your detailed advice and will update here if everything goes well ;)

Madman, thanks for your fb link :) Think will pay them a visit! Thanks again peeps!
