Wheel Hop

I have a 1993 Honda Civic SI that i swapped to a B16A this summer. The only modification ive done is an AEM short ram intake. I was curious as to why i get so much wheel hop. Im not talking slightly, or a little bit, if i had a camera id take video of it. I was worried that this hop would kill my CV axles so i purchased new ones and installed them.

Would a bad tie rod make a huge difference in wheel hop? I plan to replace it very soon but was wondering if there could be anything else contributing.

Even in the rain for instance, doing an e-brake burn out just for fun, ill get crazy amounts of wheel hop. Im using steelies atm, getting my rims powdercoated.

Anyone have any ideas as to why i would have so much wheel hop? Is the tie rod the only cause?

Thanks.

you have no idea how good that is to hear

tire hop is incredibly annoying

when you know you're tearing every bit of your car up at once, you want to cry, especially when you're the one that built it

thanks so much.

you can get a traction bar.....

question do you have the front mounts installed? and what kind of mounts do you have? rubber or poly.. Hasport Poly mounts will eliminate some of the wheel hop in compromise for more cabin vibration.

ES also has motor mount inserts for the stock bottom 3 mounts. Prothane has inserts for the top 2.

it can be a number of things... i had crazy wheel hop before too... changed rim and tires from 16 in with 45 series to 15 in with 50 series made a world of a difference for me :thumb:

I guess i should clarify.

Im on 14 inch steelies, im using stock b16 mounts, (rubber) and the hop isnt the tires im worried bout, its making my whole body hop, fast enough to where the dash will blur. thats what i mean by insane.

i wish someone was here to go for a ride in it.

ill try replacing tie rod, if im still getting mad hop, ill cry.

your loose tie rod doesn't help.
Any worn bushings will aggravate the problem.

this tie rod is very bad. If im at a stoplight turning right, and have to stop for a red light, then accelerate, when im accelerating through the turn i experience slight hop at only like 1/4 throttle. Ill get this fixed and let you all know the result. I got price availability for it, just gotta order it monday/tuesday.

this is what i was thinking too. your mounts are probably no good. a lot of people who were doing swaps here were leaving out the front mounts, and they kept wondering why they were breaking trannies. theses are very important unless you are running some hasport mounts or someting of that sort, because they eliminate those mounts and any movement from the motor.

I bought the whole swap from hmotorsonline.com and all of the mounts are good. but im looking to replace them soon anyway, i guess i can look for some prices online... After the tie rod is replaced anyway.

Tires make a big difference especially 14s

I am running all 5 mounts and the bottom 3 have poly inserts and my car feels solid with barely any wheel hop. unless im spinning 3rd :(
