Handbrake holding on one side!

Hi everyone, new here.

I'm having a problem with my 95 EG3.
My handbrake isn't working, even when I pull the lever up as far as possible.
I have took of the cover and can see that the cables are holding unevenly.

When the car rests on the handbrake, I can feel that It lifts on one side, doesn't on the other. causing the car to slant from passenger side to driver side.(btw they are drum brakes at the back)

Any Ideas what this is?
Cost to fix?
Easy to D.I.Y?

If there are any information on any other threads that would be helpful.

thank you

i will have to say it is time to change your brake cables. If you look at the cable line to your rear (if that is what you are pointing out), you can see if your lines are rusted.

Also, old cable wires tend to give out type of sitaution as the wear and tear in pulling the cable and releasing will cause it to expand.

Try also to check your rear brakes. The brakes shoe might be worn-out or it needs a little adjustment.

had this problem a while back...this is what i did. sounds a bit crazy but it's worth a try:

fully loosen the ebrake cables by adjusting the nut

disconnect the ebrake springs from the brakes

take ur calipers off and pads out

turn the brake pistons clockwise until they go right in

put back the pads and calipers

fit back the ebrake springs

pump your brakes about 10 times, then lift ebrake up and down about 10 times (repeat process about 5-6 times)

adjust the ebrake nut until you get about 6-9 clicks from the ebrake

should be fine after this and ebrake cables should adjust evenly

...hope it helps

adjustment sounds great, but be careful with adjustment when your cable lines have been so old. This will not help in your long term as it will either"

1. Snap at your when you might be on a hill during parking.
2. Your brake will not lock up as it doesn't work.
3. a sign to change your cable lines because it is old.

And most importantly, brake do not play around with safety parts where it suppose to keep you safe.
