Black rubbery thing under rear seats

i removed the rear seats beacuse they were lose and i saw this.. is this normal if not what is it and can i remove it?

looks like an aftermarket seam sealer. Usually that stuff is put on at the factory, then the shall is painted.

You're gonna have fun getting that off...
You might try putting dry ice on it and seeing if it chips off. That's the easiest way, it if will work on that stuff.

I wonder why someone did that and what it is covering up...

leakage? cracks? could be possible why they applied more of those black sticky stuff.

It's probably there to stop a leak due to a bad factory seal. I'd leave well enough alone if I were you.
