Ok im considering trading a guy my hatch for his delsol and some money.
But his delsol needs a paint job because paints fading...My question is what are the steps for sanding the car and get it ready for paint?...any techniques,secrets.

There are a few different routes you could take... depending on the body... is there damage you'll be repairing? dings/scratches? or is it good to go?

If the body is good and no repairs needed you can just scuff up the existing paint. You can use scotch brite pads or sand paper 2000-25000 grit.

You can do that...or you can sand down past the paint to the original primer (recomended for cars with multiple coats of paint/primer)
But usually scuffing is good enough.

well i think the only place that needs repairing is the little dent on the fender.but other than its all good

2000-2500 is for polishing mainly, i wouldnt use anything that fine to prep for paint! Id flatten with 1000 then use a scotch pad

So first 1000 then scuff with pad?

do you completely wanna sand it down or are you going to paint over what's already on there? I painted my car over top of what I had before I just used a scotchbrite pad to scuff up the paint and get any wax ect that might be on the paint. I sanded my hood down to bare metal with an orbital sander and 80 grit paper but you'll have to go over it with finer grained paper to take out the scratches...

Well the guy said the paints fading..so i dont kno ill tell u guys next week when i go see it
