I was going to use vht nite shades to smoke my tails. wanted to know how hard is it if i dont want it pitch black but i want it kinda dark. also wanted to know if anyone in hawaii knows if its illegal or what

if you do less coats (maybe 2-3) then it will not be completely black. Each state has their own laws on this, but the less dark you go, the better your chances of not getting a ticket.

It's not too hard to do, just make the first coat(s) real light so they don't run. Also lightly scuff the lights first with fine steel wool so the paint will have something to bite to

Since we're on the subject of smoking lenses, is the VHT Nite Shades the best product to use? Sorry, I'm not from Hawaii and cannot answer your question, but I thought I'd ask mine since we're on the subject.

I used a spray gun and I mixed black car paint with some clear coat but if you don't have that option then vht is your best option cuz its the same thing just in the form of a spray can
