Why would you pay 2000 bucks for a set of wheels you never take out of the garage because you're affraid damaging them in any way...
I'd buy a set of cheap Rota's I could just f' up any day, just because they do exactly the same, and they're strong and rigid enough for spirited driving.

The ONLY advantage the real deal has over Rota's; they have nicer finishes, but just barely.

If you think that the only reason other BETTER quality wheels are more is a slightly better finish I am not going to waste my time explaining it to you.

I would and have rocked Rota's but it always bothered me how all they do is make knock off's of something that not everyone can get. It cheapen's the real thing a little.

Now because of it, people like you knock people who actually go out and buy quality. Since when is buying quality a bad thing? Since Rota came out, that's when.

I know there is a lot more to the real deal wheels than just the finish ;)

But IMO, while DD, you will not notice the difference between a good 150 dollar wheel or a near perfect 500 dollar wheel.

When doing trackdays, it really is worth the extra money, it'll reward you with better handling and faster laptimes, but when driving home from work, paying some good old B-roads with a visit, a set of Rota's is as good as a set of Works, Volks, Gram Lights, etc.

And don't get me wrong; I do want the real deal, but prices are ridiculous, so the next best thing is Rota.

I do agree w/ you to some extent. But 99% of Rota owners do not have real deals and use Rota's for DD's. I have used em for winter wheels but that is it. I ditched em when I moved here to Hawaii because I know how to drive when the conditions leave me in control.

I don't have a trailer queen w/ trailer queen parts. As long as you drive right, you won't damage your investment. I chose all parts on my car to be used when ever I need it which is on a DD basis. I didn't buy my .40 cal Glock for protection then leave it at home everytime I go out, and I don't swap in a D15B7 for the work commute.

Buy your knock off's. I would and have but don't lie to yourself and don't bash people who actually buy the REAL thing.

Here's my take on Rotas compared to real deal wheels.....

Get what fits your budget, and enjoy what you have.

Okay Jlau, I don't need you to bring up your gun in a discussion, I can deal with 99% of all discussions with talking only, and for the other 1%, my length of over 6 foot 7 and ± 260lbs (no, I'm not obese) will handle the rest of my IRL quarrels.

BTW, I have the real deal (Speedline, it's not Works, but it sure is quality stuff), my next set of wheels will be the real deal.
And everybody fucks up, for example; when I was bringing my Speedlines to the tire shop, I had the wheels in the back of a mini van, driving down a country road, when I had to evade some asshole cutting me off, so my wheels bashed into each other damaging the paint... I was mad as hell as you could imagine.

What I'm saying is; don't bash on knock-offs, because they make the real deal look cheap.
When you're young, and like me don't want to take a loan for styling your car, a set of Rota's is the next best thing.
People who you should care about what they think about your car should be those who know the difference.

And that's all I'm trying to say.

JLau, what tie bar is that in your sig? and what kind of lower control arms are they? i've never seen purple ones before. did you paint them? or are they a manufactor?

there's no reason for someone with knockoffs to bash the real thing. If you have the $$$$ then more power to you.

There's no reason for someone with the real thing to bash rotas. They should be happy that they own the real deal. There's always going to be knockoffs of things, so save your breath. When a true enthusiast looks at your car, they see & respect the authentic wheels.

The real thing is lighter and has better attention to detail, but that's not worth top dollar to everyone.

Structural integrity is also better engineered in the real thing.
There is a lot more to good wheels then only being light

There is an article somewhere, can't find it anymore unfortunately, but AFAIK Advan* made for a magazine one batch of really lightweight wheels with only the necessary rigidity to the four of them (like Rota's and other knock-offs), and they tested it on a track together with the normal, slightly heavier wheel they sell.
The lighter wheel gave the car better acceleration, but the heavier, more rigid wheel was so much stiffer, it actually shortened lap times by a few hundreds of a second, and made the car feel much better handling.
So that's why I say; Rota's and knock-offs are great for DD, when you're going to the track, get the real deal.

*) could have been another 'big name' in the import wheel scene.
