Well you could just start sanding on it, or use aircraft stripper. It comes in a can and you just spray it on the paint. You let it sit and then just start wiping off the paint with some paint thinner.

The best results I got from airisol stripper was using a pressure washer to remove the paint after the stipper sat for about 15 minutes

Aircraft strip them, then sand and repaint if you want them painted. I would go with self etching primers, filler primer, an acrylic paint (if you want a nice glossy finish) then a clear coat.
Also you could polish them. There is a how to on the forum on doing so.
