If I have had disconnected the lines from my mc does this mean I need to bench bleed my mc now ?

I would say so as your pressure in the lines is released.

i 'bench bleed' the mc while its in the car.
1-jack up the rear of car until the mc is level.
2-make sure plenty of fluid is in reservoir
3-put fingers over the holes for the brake lines and have someone slowly pump the brake pedal until pedal pressure comes up.
4-connect brake lines.
5-enjoy firm brakes.
