Calipers, Rotors, Pads, Lines & more- OEM and Aftermarket

so in late september/early october my mechanic replaced the shoes in the rear rotors (big mistake i know i should've swapped for disks). When i slowly step on the brakes now i get a click click click coming from the brakes until i reach a halt
now the reason why im worried now instead of two months earlier when this started happening is that i read that this is a warning mechanism that says that the shoes are done for (the car brakes much better after the visit to the mechanic btw) so did my mechanic mess up on the install or is this normal?
thanks

Do you feel anything when it clicks? Or does stopping still feel normal?
Could be the something in the drum has or was not properly replaced. Did you have the drums turned or put new ones on?
