In my opinion it is safer..especially if u do the disassembly while the components are still on the vehicle. But hey d-mon have u figured out a way to do the front?

the procedure i described is for the front and back.
assemble the shock, with fork, spring, tophat etc and put in place.
put in the bolt that connects the fork to the lca, put the nut on it (you don't have to tighten it).
with your jack under the lca, raise it up to put pressure on the spring until you have enough thread exposed and put the nut on.
if you are going to leave it on the car, put the 2 tophat nuts on and tighten everything.
otherwise, lower the jack and undo the nut and bolt holding the fork to the lca and remove the shock.
