Never been lowered

So I have a eg8 and I was looking to upgrade my suspension. I was wonder if any of you who have done this before could offer some advice on what brands are good, what all I am going to want, where I should buy from and how much it all going to cost. This is for my daily driver so I don't want to go all out and I was planning on spending about $700. I was thinking about doing adjustable coil overs and new shocks. Am I going to want/need polyurethane bushings or new lower control arms?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks all

Depends on what you want.

As for struts, Koni Yellows, Tokico Blues, KYB Gas Struts are all well known good solid products.

As for Springs/coilovers good brands include skunk2, eibach, and tein all make good springs.

I personally have eibach springs on OEM struts for my sedan which I wanted lowered, to have better handling them OEM, however still have a nice ride. I paid around 200 bucks for the eibach pro springs.

A friend of mine who has a EG Hatch has KYB Gas struts and ebay coil-overs. It lets him have a nice firm ride, however not be bouncy as ebay coils are with OEM Struts. It suits his need for a nice low Hatch, has decent ride quality and the handling he wants.

If entirely depends on what your plans are going to be with the car. You stated its a daily driver, but what else to do with the car. Is it just a daily driver and you want it lower and still have a good ride? Do you also want to AutoCross? Drag Race?

With a quick online search I found a Skunk2 adjustable strut/coil setup.

When I buy parts online, I mostly buy them on ebay. There is nothing wrong with buying quality parts on ebay, Its a pretty secure place to buy online. Google Shopping search also finds good buys from reputable places online. Make sure to take advantage of these tools when you choose to pick up your new suspension.

chrono404 has some good things.

for $700 US moolas, id recommend koni yellows, their damper adjustables and circlip adjustable so they would be very good for daily and track sessions if your going to be doing that once in awhile. With the koni yellows, you can either go for some sleeves or some good springs. With the sleeves, its not really worth it as they ride like ass haha If you find some cheap neuspeed race springs get them and some koni yellows.

Another cheap option is go type r shocks and some good lowering springs. Type r shocks are quite comfortable and have a really nice ride to them. They wont be as rough as your eg8 shocks.

Also when buying shocks, make sure you have the right LCAs for the rear as they might be eyeball or forks.

Thats all i can think about right now.

Yea, it is a daily driver but I want to get into autocross. So the skunk2 coilover set like the one in the link would come with the springs and the shocks right? Also, how can I tell how much lower any given kit will lower my car, I wanted to start by lowering only an inch.

you cant really tell how much itll lower your car unless you get coilovers. because with coilovers, you can adjust them to what ever height you want them to be. But with the normal spring and shock combo, you wont really be able to know how much drop it will be as different setups will differ

I had KYB struts with a set of ground contol/eibach springs and coilover sleeves and it rode pretty decent.

KYB Gas Struts and ebay Coilovers will work pretty good.

I would suggest going with adjustable coil-overs, such as THESE, You will want to be able to adjust your ride height. I got Eibach lowering springs for my sedan and am Happy with them now, however when I got them it wasn't low enough. Even then I would like to have my car lower.

ebay coils with kyb gas struts ride pretty good, not as comphy as my eibach springs, however it has much better handling and still has a nice ride. I have friends who have this setup and am very tempted to do the same.

I like those Coils, they have a scale on them which is pretty cool. And the price on those KYB's is really good.
