Hiya. So the eg I have is a little old school. I'm the 3rd owner and boy was the wiring a mess... After taking off a couple of the wire taps I noticed some were cut off completely and need help getting pointed in the right direction to clean up this harness.

The car is running on a carb engine so no ecu.

Here's the harness:

This is what went to the head unit that came with the car. It was a panasonic so I doubt this was stock plugs. The harness wirings have also been severely shortened.

What's the reasoning for this fuse add on?

This is what goes into the interior fuse box to power the whole shebang. But what is that blue connector strapped to the harness below the other connectors?

The yellow wire has been cut on this one. And a thick wire has been attached with a single round connector...

What's the reasoning for this fuse add on?

That inline fuse is standard for an aftermarket radio harness. I think they all have it. Too bad the previous owner hacked up the harness and cut the factory radio plug. They make $10 conversion extensions that go from the factory plug to connect up to an aftermarket radio plug.

Thanks teal! I'm guessing that based on your image of the extension, all the wires on that end should go to the radio.

Hopefully I can somehow restore this.

Yes, it works by soldering the wires from your aftermarket radio's harness to the extension, which then plugs into the factory radio plug.

So I chopped off the extensions to clean things up... seems the harness was shortened.

I also picked up a new cluster, but when I matched the orientation of the wiring the connectors seemed to be reversed. The longer part of my harness now slots on the right while the shorter run goes in on the left. I'm assuming that the reason is that this cluster is from a RHD. Is that right?

Image

My car still runs on a carb. Comparing the connectors from my harness (B) to the spares on the cluster (A) shows a similar pin pattern, save some that are missing on my carb one. I found two pin-out tables on google, but both of them has one of the connectors in the reverse order which is confusing. But based on the diagram, for the A set: the 12/13 pin has an extra wire between tachometer and oil pressure that shouldn't be there, and the 10 pin is missing the trunk light. On the other hand, my original messed up harness seems to have the right pin out, save for the odd order in the googled tables.

In case I want to rebuild a harness, anyone know where I can source new connectors and pins? Not sure what they're called!
