ECU, Wiring, Sensors

What: This post will show information on how to get 12v constant power through an aftermarket cigarette lighter.

Where: All the items were bought at O'Reilly Autoparts (www.oreillyauto.com)

Car: 92-95 EG civics (Sedan, Hatch, and Coupe)

First step: Locate the fusebox under the dash (right below the steering wheel).

Second: Find the optional connectors (right above the colorful fuses; they are labeled A B C D E) Here's a picture reference

Third: Locate option connector "A" and option connector "B" (these are considered "Hot at all times" meaning they both have constant power even when the car is turned off; they're the first 2 option connectors on the left)

Fourth: Go to your local autoparts store (I bought all my items at O'Reilly Autoparts) and look for the following:

1. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... te+lighter

2. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0335 (This is a 16-14 Gauge cable)

3. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0189
(DO NOT buy this exact one, buy the one that fits the cigarette lighter.)

NOTE: The gauge cable I bought doesn't exactly fit the quick disconnect pins.

DIY:

1. Cut the gauge cable in half (So that it is even length)

2. Cut some of the covering off from the tips of the gauge cable (So that it shows some wire. I cut off about 1/2 inch)

3. Connect 1 "quick disconnect" pin on each side of the gauge cable (The "quick disconnect" pins will later connect to 1 "option connector; A or B" and 1 to the cigarette lighter) The pin you put on the cigarette lighter will be the one in bronze, the middle one)

NOTE: Since the wire doesn't fit, you're going to have to pinch the pin to the wire(use some pliers or something similar)

4. Take the second gauge cable, put 1 "quick disconnect" pin on ONE SIDE ONLY. The other side will be for the ground.

5. Connect the second gauge cable to the "quick disconnect" pin on the silver part of the cigarette lighter.

6. Find a place to ground the the second gauge cable (Put this anywhere you want, as long as it's metal; I put mine in the middle column in-between the frame and a bolt)

7. Grab the first gauge cable (The one with both "quick disconnect" pins) and connect one pin to the lighter (the middle one that's bronze). Do this one FIRST before hooking up the other side of the pin to one of the option connectors. Now put the last "quick disconnect" pin in either option connector A or B (these are constant power sources). To make sure you're getting power through there, go ahead and test it with a multimeter (You can also use a random car charger; hopefully one that you don't care about)

There you have it, a 24/7 cigarette lighter (For use with ANYTHING you want using a cigarette lighter adapter)

I spent a good hour doing all the stuff including prep. time.

I apologize for not having pictures. But I think I made it clear enough to have it without.

Enjoy!
