check the wiring at the VSS for any frays, also inspect the plug for anything out of the ordinary. Pull the VSS out of the tranny(carefully!! the gear on it is plastic) and inspect it for broken or worn teeth. If it all looks good then go to your ecu, disconnect the B connector, turn the ignition switch on, block the right front wheel and have a friend slowly rotate the left front wheel and measure voltage with a meter between pins B10(+)(yellow/blue wire) and A26(-)(yellow/white wire). It should pulse 0 volts and more than 5 volts, if it doesnt then replace the VSS.
may sound confusing, but once you get into it then it is pretty straight forward.
