Where's my 7200?

alright, so i know for sure that my ECU and engine are from the same manual 95 GS teggy (B18B1 and P75) and to my knowledge, the ECU has never been opened/tampered with at all. but for some reason it hits the rev-limiter at 6800 rpms....

all the info i've ever read says it should red-line at 6800 and hit the limiter at 7200.

WTF.... were's my 400 rpms??

I'm about to boost the motor and the ECU will be chipped/tuned at that time. I'd probably leave it at that limit just cause it probably doesn't need to rev that high anyway...

anyone else ever run into this? or know what the deal is??

I've heard of stock tach's being off a couple-few hundred rpm. They are not known for being precise.

that would make a lot of sense...

I have another cluster, just haven't had a chance to throw it in. I was swapping it out anyway cause i about positive it's the culprit for my speedometer issues.

and i remember back when this car was first swapped and it still had the stock dx cluster in it with a big ass aftermarket tach. I'm pretty sure i remember us setting the shift light to come on at 6800..

thanks teal, sounds like the current cluster's more jacked up than i know

i never noticed/had this problem with the LS tranny in it as it seemed to stop making power at around 6600 (which might actually be about 7000) so i'd just shift.

with the GSR tranny in it now, it's pulling harder and making power right up till the rev-limiter, which it's getting to a lot quicker than before

x2 i did another cluster swap in my dd cuz the other one was an auto cluster and was faded... the one i took out red 400 rpm lower, i compared the one i got now to a friends bone stock ls integra , as far as what he tacks a certian speeds, im sure my cluster i have now is more accurate because we are runnin the same trans... and my kmph is right on with the jdm cluster in my b16 hatch and my idle wa always on the low side with the other cluster...

The tach even when it was brand new from the factory was easily off 400 RPM or more. If you want to know the true RPM at redline, you need a datalogger.
