ok i would like to get a k24a1 and slowly build it i see the motor can be had for 500-800 bucks my question is how good are thesleeves can i upgrade the pistons and rods without doing sleeves like whats the max cp on stock sleeves cuz i plain on putting a stock a1 in a ek 4 door or eg hatch and save up ge a a2 head just slowlyj build it

Using Sleeves on a motor it is used for high horsepower racing applications. When using nitrous or high psi on turbocharging an engine builder will add the sleeves to protect the engine from blowing a hole. The general k-series engine build will not require sleeves.

It depends on where you are trying to get with your motor. What kind of power are you wanting to make? Every motor is different, you will see people making power up in too the 800's on stock k series sleeves, this does not mean your's will. It may, but you never know. It also comes down too the tuning, the motor is only as good as the tune.

i was just looking to do i nice piston rod set up like 12-5-1 cp switch the cams and call it a day you guys think the k24a1 is worth it >>>?

if your going to do 12.5 comp you will want a performance vtec head like the k20a2 head, or k24a2 head. The K24a1 head is a vtec-e head. Its not a good head for N/A Power.

The k24a1(crv) bottom end is a good bottom end, especally since its cheap and you can swap a k20a2 head right onto it. The k24a4(Accord, Element) has pistons that wont work with the k20 head so you need to swap out pistons.

k24a1 has 160hp and 160ft/lbs stock, cant complain with that.

yea its a really solid base i would want to do the pistons and rods 1st then get the motor in the car. then save up and build the head like a a2 head iam in no rush. eather the k24a1 or build a h22 those are my pics for next swap

soo my big thing is i do not have to switch the pistons with a k24a1 right? and for the cams could i just switch the rocker arms to the a2 ones>>?

yes the k24a1 pistons will work fine with the k20a2 head as stated. But you will need kpro to get it all running. personally i think the k24 is a lighter setup and has better transmission options than the h22. but its all about preferences. swapping in a newer motor like a k series always comes with more work, wiring, changing your fuel system, custom exhaust work, getting a rsx shifter and cables. its allot of work.

From what i understand the k24a1 has a very usable torque curve as well.

i am well aware of a k swap being alot of work and iam down idc my type r is going in a crx and iam going to build i K24a1 i just wanted to make sure it was a good platform

I just bought 3 k24a1's lol and a set of arias piston and rods 11:1 comp. but I'm pretty lost about what I need to put it in my car.

It is a laundry list parts,

Mounts
shifter box
ecu
shift cables
rad hoses
header
intake manifold
throttle cable
bracket for throttle cable
conversion harness
Fuel line kit
Axles depending on power level you can run stock axles

There are a ton of small parts as well this list is huge but places like k-tuned and hybrid-racing have everything you need and k-tuned even has packages I think they are around 1500 bucks and up and have options on what you want and need. But there are still parts you will have to pick up outside of the kits like brackets for the rad and depending on shifter there are many ways to mount them.

You will need a trans if you can locate one, RSX 5 or 6 speed, EP3 5 speed or a 06-11 civic SI trans


Stock k sleeves can hold quite a bit of power, stock sleeves can only handle so much bore that is why most people put sleeves in so they can take it from 87mm to over 90mm safely making sure that clearances and specs are still ok. Find yourself a good engine builder and talk to them. There are places out there like blue print racing that will build you an enigne that you want for around 3500 bucks,

Also you can convert i-vtec heads that come on all the k24 blocks to true vtec heads by ordering valve train, you can locate a k20 head but is not necessary if you are building it anyway. These motors can make a ton of power NA or turbo. Only thing is they cost a ton of money. But you will get the most power out of them if they are build correctly over any other honda motor.

Well for the followers you will need stock ones but for springs and valves there is skunk2, blue print racing, ferria, supertech, etc. there are options out there as well as for the followers but you have to be careful with those cause some are locked so it will just be in constant vtec at all times not really good for street use.

Well I'll probably just trow a k20 head on. And then upgrade the head internals.
